Poetry and Prose by Teal Scott
The Spiritual Catalyst
(A poem in which Teal speaks to the human race.)
(A poem in which teal is talking to herself as a child.)
(Being an avid horseman since birth, Teal wrote this poem after a ride on
her horse when she was still a teenager.)
(A poem about Teal’s favorite flower, which if you read closely, is also
a poem about herself.)
(A poem about the summers in the Wasatch mountains where Teal grew up.)
(A verse in which Teal is talking to her son, Winter as an infant.)
(A poem Teal wrote several years ago during her childhood abuse in which
she describes the feeling place of it. The poem contains several hidden
details of the actual abuse that was taking place.)
(A Journal entry written by Teal upon returning for a visit to her
hometown after escaping.)
(A poem Teal wrote in reference to her mother while in therapy for the
abuse that she suffered as a child.)
(A poem that Teal wrote in China while studying Qigong in which she
describes how everything that is, is made from nothingness… with our minds,
nothingness being the beginning state which is accessed through meditation or
dreamless sleep, which people fear due to their skewed morals. But which
shouldn’t be feared at all because nothingness is simply the potential state
of “everythingness”.)
(Teal wrote this poem as a teenager while watching a sunset before running
away.)
(A verse in which Teal speaks to us about worth.)
(A poem Teal wrote after escaping and years of healing… To the man who
abused her.)
(A poem in which Teal is speaking about our detrimental, societal idea of
justice.)
(A poem Teal wrote after watching a news program, featuring soldiers at
war in Iraq.)
(A poem Teal wrote after a suicide attempt due to her childhood
programming. In this poem she explains that a person can die many times in one
life and be re-born again. In fact this process, however painful, is the very
grounds of spiritual growth.)
(This is a poem Teal wrote about a death she had just experienced, which hit her deeper than most she experiences with clients.)
(A poem that reflects on the way that positive is
inspired from negative and in this way, joy grows from suffering, and
therefore that which we call negative has it's own beauty and purpose.)
(This is a poem Teal wrote about grief while watching a family loose a loved one while she was in the ICU unit at a hospital.)
(A poem Teal wrote during a hike she took into the desert wilderness of Escalante Utah to a waterfall called Calf Creek Falls.)
(This is a poem written by Teal about enlightenment. It is meant to dispel
of the idea that enlightenment is a "place" you get to or an
unshakable state you achieve that exempts you from the human experience of
life.)
(Teal was inspired to write this poem to her students after a workshop
she held in 2012, where she encountered an understandable but unfavorable
response (which she often gets) to one of her suggestions. The response
was, "You don't understand how hard it is". Teal wanted to
explain to those who see her as an awakened teacher that people often get
to the place of being awakened by suffering, like she did, and thereby
explain that she does understand how hard it is. And not only does it NOT
have to be hard, but also that hardship is often what creates in us the
very transcendence that we seek... and that she has achieved.)
